The Shed is a new cultural institution of and for the 21st century. They produce and welcome innovative art and ideas, across all forms of creativity, to build a shared understanding of our rapidly changing world and a more equitable society. In their highly adaptable building on Manhattan’s West Side, The Shed brings together established and emerging artists and seeks opportunities to collaborate with cultural peers and community organizations, work with like-minded partners, and provide unique spaces for private events.

Facility Info
  • Description The Shed is designed to support the flexible, innovative nature of our programming. The remarkable building literally moves: The McCourt is a 280-foot telescoping shell on rails that is completely enclosable and can expand to approx 17,000 square feet. This exceptional design makes it an utterly unique venue for special events.

The ingenious movable structure can adapt to a wide variety of gatherings and functions in its divisible and reconfigurable spaces: the eight-level glass and steel structure contains a lobby, two museum-quality galleries, a 500-seat theater, and a large event space, in addition to the soaring main shell that forms The McCourt. When the shell is nested over the base building, guests can take advantage of the spectacular Plaza that is created to accommodate open-air events. The Shed is a venue for special events like no other in the world.
