Kissaki means “cutting edge” in Japanese, a nod to executive chef-partner Mark Garcia's nontraditional and inventive style of sushi. Followers used to flock to Gaijin in Astoria to experience Garcia’s opulent omakase (featuring flourishes of caviar and uni), but now they gather at either his Lower East Side or Upper West Side locations. Currently, the Upper West Side location offers table service and a selection of three dinner tasting menus: $95 10-course; $120 13-course; or $150 16-course. A la carte options are also available.
