Founded in 1987 at the Dalai Lama’s request to preserve Tibetan civilization, it opened a gallery in 1998 to exhibit classical and contemporary Tibetan art and works inspired by Tibetan art and culture. Tibet House also serves as a performance venue and the depository of repatriation and photo-archive collections.
