Celebrating 30 Years of the Americans with Disabilities Act
The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities and NYC & Company were proud to host the Accessible Tourism Landscape of New York City at ADA 30.
Since its passage in 1990, the ADA has driven a great expansion of accessible destinations, attractions and events in New York City. Today people needing accessible accommodations and solutions have a wide choice of tourism-related activities, from arts and culture to entertainment to sports and recreation. Yet there is still an enormous amount to accomplish on the road to full accessibility for all.
This virtual event brought together leaders in the intersecting worlds of disability and tourism and explored how accessible tourism has evolved, where it is today and where it is headed. A special thank you to our speakers:

- Applications for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) (SBA Business Interruption Loans) will remain open through June 30. The new program is available on a first-come, first-served basis, to businesses and nonprofits with 500 or fewer employees.
- How to apply: Ask your bank if they offer the federal SBA Paycheck Protection Program. If so, they should walk you through the application process. If your bank does not offer the program, here is a list of traditional SBA banks.

- The Freelancers Union Relief Fund provides financial assistance of up to $1,000 per household to cover lost income and essential expenses not covered by government relief programs, including food and food supplies, utility payments and cash assistance for income loss.
- Additionally, the Freelancers Union continues to survey freelancers to gauge how Covid-19 is impacting their work and their lives. While the survey is national, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) will be working with Freelancers Union to review responses from New York City and communicate feedback to City Hall, as well as state and federal government, to inform policy recommendations.

In this installment, NYC & Company hosted Ariel Palitz, senior executive director, MOME Office of Nightlife, and Gregg Bishop, commissioner, NYC Small Business Services, for a conversation about helping member businesses thrive in this competitive tourism sector. Palitz and Bishop addressed how small businesses operate and grow, explored the resources available to them from SBS and shared the initiatives of the Office of Nightlife.
