NEW YORK CITY TO HOST CITYWIDE SPORTS CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF OLYMPIC DAY AT RIVERBANK STATE PARK
WHAT: NYC & Company will host a citywide celebration with former Olympians and Paralympians to pay homage to Olympic Day. A proclamation on behalf of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg will be presented to Olympic and Paralympic athletes in honor of the day.

BACKGROUND: Athletes expected to participate in the event include Olympians Diane Dixon (Track & Field), Ray Lumpp (Basketball), Taraje Williams-Murray (Judo), Irene Andilli (Rhythmic Gymnastics), Scott Donie (Diving), Ioannis Melissandis (Gymnastics), Nigel Traverso (Field Hockey) and Paralympians Bill Schneider (Track & Field), Victor Calise (Sled Hockey), Bonnie St John (Skiing), William Henry (Skiing) and Andrea de Mello (Fencing). Hall of Fame inductees Wendy Hilliard (Rhythmic Gymnastics) and Jane Katz (Swimming) will also join the festivities.
The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) celebrates Olympic Day annually with events at the Olympic Training Centers and official training sites, as well as coordinating activities with affiliated sport National Governing Bodies and multi-sport organizations. This year, through a partnership with Chicago 2016, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Olympic Day celebrations have expanded to cities across the country.
