NYC & COMPANY AND SYFY ANNOUNCE
31 DAYS OF HALLOWEENYC

—October Celebration Features Halloween-Themed Events Across New York City—

New York City (October 3, 2011)—NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, and Syfy today announced the campaign components of 31 Days of HalloweeNYC, a month-long celebration in October featuring free, public events at locations citywide that will appeal to the whole family, including a creepy craft fair, photo booth opportunities, face painting, as well as a sweepstakes for a Halloween trip to NYC in 2012. NYC & Company and Syfy announced in March their collaboration to produce a comprehensive multi-media, co-branded campaign centered on the Halloween holiday and running throughout the month of October.

“NYC & Company is pleased to partner with Syfy to bring 31 Days of HalloweeNYC to New Yorkers and visitors this October,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “Every year, Halloween generates excitement across the five boroughs and showcases New York City’s vibrant atmosphere. The 31 Days of HalloweeNYC campaign offers an array of unique experiences for every age and interest all month-long.”

“Syfy is delighted to take ownership of Halloween in New York City through this partnership with NYC & Company,” said Dave Howe, President of Syfy and its sister network Chiller. “With our cavalcade of spooky family fun integrating advertisers Dodge and Hershey into the celebration, these events will enhance the holiday spirit citywide and make Halloween 2011 a truly memorable one for New Yorkers and tourists alike.”

31 Days of HalloweeNYC kicks off with the Creepy Crawly Craft Fair on Friday, October 14, and Saturday, October 15, at the Flatiron Plaza (Broadway between 22nd and 23rd Streets), 11am–7pm each day. Local artists will show visitors how to make unique Halloween crafts. Nearby, the Dodge-sponsored Pumpkin Patch will offer crafters the perfect photo opportunity to showcase their newly decorated pumpkins, masks and other creations.

The HalloweeNYC Haunted Photo BOO-th will take place on Thursday, October 20, at Union Square’s North Plaza (East 17th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South), and Friday, October 21, at Washington Square Park (Holley Plaza, West 4th and Thompson Streets), 11am–7pm each day. One to five guests can pose in the booth, which will be stocked with costumes and props as well as feature various green screens depicting spooky Halloween and Syfy programming–related backgrounds. Visitors can take home a picture as a memento.

On Friday, October 28, and Saturday, October 29, the Face Off Face Painting station will be at Gansevoort Plaza (Gansevoort Street between  Hudson Street and Ninth Avenue), 11am–7pm each day. Professional makeup artists will transform guests from the ordinary to the extraordinary—just like on Syfy’s hit show, Face Off. The Dodge Pumpkin Patch will be on site for photo opportunities.

For those looking for thrills and chills, look no further than the Chiller-sponsored room in Nightmare: Fairy Tales, one of NYC’s most well-known haunted houses. Nightmare: Fairy Tales, at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center (107 Suffolk St., between Rivington and Delancey Streets), will run from Friday, September 30, to Saturday, November 5. Another special HalloweeNYC event is a pumpkin-decorating station at the Central Park Pumpkin Festival, on Saturday, October 29, at the Central Park Bandshell Area.

In addition, more than 40 NYC & Company members throughout the five boroughs will provide special offers or menu items during the Syfy Purple Pumpkin Promotion all October long. Plus, fans can enter the Syfy HalloweeNYC Sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for two to New York City’s 2012 Halloween Celebration. The prize package includes airfare from American Airlines, two nights at YOTEL New York, two tickets to Broadway’s SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off the Dark and VIP passes to New York City’s most-talked-about Halloween events, including the infamous Village Halloween Parade.
