New York City (October 1, 2012) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, and Syfy today announced the return of Syfy 31 Days of HalloweeNYC, a monthlong Halloween-themed celebration in October featuring free public events across the five boroughs. The comprehensive campaign includes the Syfy HalloweeNYC Fest at Flatiron Plaza on October 26–28, sponsorship of 14 NYC Department of Parks & Recreation fall events and a new collaboration with national retailer Spirit Halloween. The activities and events are designed to appeal to the whole family, including concerts, craft fairs, pumpkin carving, photo booth opportunities, face painting, as well as a sweepstakes to win a Halloween trip to New York City in 2013.

“Thousands of New Yorkers and visitors gather each year in New York City to celebrate Halloween,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “Every year, the holiday generates excitement across the five boroughs and showcases New York City’s vibrant atmosphere. Syfy HalloweeNYC Fest offers an array of unique experiences for every age and interest all month long.”

“Once again, Syfy is thrilled to work with NYC & Company to bring this rich selection of family-friendly events throughout the five boroughs,” said Michael Engleman, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Global Brand Strategy, Syfy and Chiller. “With support by longtime advertising partner Hershey’s, we will imagine a greater Halloween celebration for both city residents and tourists.”

“We are thrilled that Syfy is sponsoring 14 Halloween and autumn themed events at public parks throughout New York City ranging from haunted houses to pooch parades to Central Park’s Pumpkin Festival,” said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Veronica White.  “Our partnership with Syfy and NYC & Company is a great example of the public and private sectors coming together to create fun and free activities to benefit all New Yorkers.”

Syfy HalloweeNYC Fest will bring the best of Halloween to Flatiron Plaza (at 23rd Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway) on October 26–28, 11am–6pm daily. Free events named after popular Syfy shows will be offered during the three-day celebration: a Hot Set Hands-On Crafts Center, Ghost Hunters Goodies snack station, green-screen Paranormal Witness Photo Booth, and a Face Off Face-Painting Station, where guests will be transformed from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Plus families can enjoy performances by Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark, Big Apple Circus, The Jimmies, Princess Katie & Racer Steve, Apple Seeds’ Songs for Seeds, The Amazing Max and much more on the Syfy Stage.

After a successful integration into last year’s Central Park Pumpkin Festival, Syfy will sponsor 14 existing NYC Parks events across the City. The events include haunted houses in the five boroughs, the Wolfes Pond Park Pooch Parade and Howl-o-ween, Thriller at the Battery and Shocktoberfest.

In addition, Syfy and Spirit Halloween retailers will offer a 20% discount on one item at Spirit stores, which will display Syfy-branded items such as door decals and employee buttons, across the nation starting October 1. Plus Spirit will feature a page on its website with Syfy’s favorite costume picks.

Fans can also enter Syfy’s 31 Days of HalloweeNYC Sweepstakes for a chance to win a trip for two to New York City’s 2013 Halloween celebration. The prize package includes airfare from JetBlue, three nights’ accommodations at YOTEL New York, a Halloween makeover from Spirit Halloween and VIP passes to New York City’s most-talked-about Halloween event, the infamous Village Halloween Parade.
