Determine the “Best in the City”—


New York City (March 20, 2014) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, encourages all New Yorkers to attend the 2014 NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games on Saturday, March 29, at City College of New York (CCNY). The event will showcase the best male and female high school seniors from the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) and the best seniors from the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) as they compete for the title of “Best in the City.”


“The NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games is a wonderful platform for the best male and female high school seniors to showcase their hard-work and dedication,’” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company. “We are proud to work with the PSAL and CHSAA to bring together nearly 120 student-athletes from all five boroughs to compete for the coveted title of ‘Best in the City.”


The NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games will take place at CCNY’s Nat Holman Gymnasium, 160 Convent Ave. (at W. 136th Street), with the girls game starting at 1pm, followed immediately by the boys game at 3pm. Additionally, the PSAL will be hosting two additional senior showcase games at 10:30am (girls) and 5pm (boys). Tickets for all games will be distributed free of charge at the door on a first-come, first-served basis.  


The NYC Mayor’s Cup will showcase 15 NCAA Division I college signees, including Michael Williams (Bishop Loughlin/Rutgers), Khadeen Carrington (Bishop Loughlin/Seton Hall), Shevar Newkirk (Cardinal Hayes/St. Joseph’s), Samson Usilo (Nazareth/Manhattan College), Elisha Boone (Abraham Lincoln/St. Peter’s), Tyshawn Myles (W.H.E.E.L.S./Drexel), Maria Backman (Cardinal Spellman/Michigan), Nyasha Irizarry (Archbishop Molloy/Manhattan College), Emmeri Archer (South Shore/Texas A&M – Corpus Christi). Also playing in the game will be Adonis Delarosa (Christ the King) who is being recruited by top-flight college programs including Georgetown, St. John’s and Rutgers.
