for a Getaway in New York City—

NYC Restaurant Week, Broadway Week and Off-Broadway Week—
New York City (December 13, 2012)—NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced “Sample NYC Winter Sale,” a new marketing program designed to demonstrate how New York City is a great holiday gift for friends, family, spouses or oneself this winter. January and February are traditionally slow periods for tourism making it the perfect time to visit and take advantage of lower hotel room rates and restaurant and theater savings opportunities across the five boroughs.
“With ‘Sample NYC Winter Sale’ we are giving visitors more reasons to travel to New York City this winter and are encouraging everyone to share the excitement and vibrancy of the five boroughs with their friends and families,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “January and February are perfect months to visit New York, and our winter offers make it even easier to sample the City’s iconic hotels, fine dining and theater at an affordable price.”
The “Sample NYC Winter Sale” encourages travel during the tourism industry’s only need period of January and February, with an average of 1.3 million fewer visitors compared to the rest of the year. During this time the average daily hotel room rate is approximately $216, which is about 24 percent lower than the average for the rest of the year. This drop in hotel prices gives visitors a chance to significantly save on their hotel stay while also benefiting from several “Sample NYC Winter Sale” added-value hotel offers from January 2 to February 28.
As the official NYC Family Ambassadors, the Muppets will continue to encourage family travel to the City, and with the Muppet Family Fun Hotel Promotion more than 30 New York City hotels will provide either a free room-category upgrade, complimentary breakfast for kids under 12 or both, which will be packaged with a Muppets gift bag. The Signature Collection Third Night promotion offers visitors a Third Night free at some of the City’s most luxurious hotels after they book and pay for two consecutive nights. Or with Winter Stay Longer and Save book two or more nights from a wide selection of NYC hotels and receive one night free or great room-rate savings.
In addition to hotel offers, in January and February visitors and New Yorkers can enjoy three-course prix-fixe meals during the City’s popular, long-running dining event, NYC Restaurant Week (January 14–February 8), and two-for-one tickets to world-renowned theatrical productions during the fifth iteration of Broadway Week (January 22–February 7) and the seventh season of Off-Broadway Week (January 28–February 10). Restaurant Week reservations open and theater tickets go on sale on January 7.
Tourism to New York City reached record levels in 2011, when Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that the City had achieved its goal of attracting 50 million annual visitors one year ahead of schedule. With
50.9 million visitors, $34.5 billion in direct spending and approximately
$52 billion in total economic impact generated in 2011, the tourism industry is New York City’s fifth largest, sustaining 355,000 leisure and hospitality jobs. In April 2012 NYC & Company established a new tourism goal:
$70 billion in economic impact and 55 million annual visitors by 2015.
