TO NEW YORK CITY

—WrestleMania is First of Five Major Sports and Entertainment
Events To Be Held in New York City Area Over Next Two Years—

New York City (April 4, 2013) — NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta joined WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority CEO Wayne Hasenbalg and dozens of WWE superstars at Radio City Music Hall to kick off WrestleMania Week, a celebration of events across New York and New Jersey. NYC & Company was a member of the Local Organizing Committee that helped bring the event to the New York City metropolitan area. WrestleMania 29 is the first in a series of major sports and entertainment events that New York City will host over next two years.

“We are pleased to welcome WWE fans from around the world to New York City for WrestleMania 29,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta.  “Attracting high-profile events is integral to the City’s tourism industry and helps spotlight the City’s hotels, restaurants, cultural attractions and shops to wider audiences.”

Since the launch of its Sports Marketing division in 2009, NYC & Company has developed and implemented strategies to attract some of the world’s premier sports and entertainment events to New York City. Big events like WrestleMania help the City stay on track for its goal of 55 million visitors and $70 billion in economic impact by 2015.

In addition to WrestleMania 29, the metropolitan area will host several marquee sporting events over the next two years. Those events include:

  • 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Citi Field

  • Super Bowl XLVIII, MetLife Stadium

  • 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Regional,  Madison Square Garden

  • 2015 NBA All-Star Game, Location TBD

These big events are expected to generate hundreds of million of dollars in economic impact for New York City. For example, the 2013 MLB All-Star Game is estimated to bring in 176,000 visitors and generate $191.5 million for the City, according to analysis by the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
