NYC & COMPANY EMBARKS ON FIRST-EVER INDIA MEDIA MISSION TO PROMOTE THE ‘NEW’ NEW YORK CITY



— NYC’s Newest Attractions Promoted at Media Appointments in Mumbai and New Delhi—



Mumbai, India (September 9, 2015) – NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today kicked off its first-ever media mission in India. Members of the Global Communications team will present the ‘new’ New York City to influential media in desk side appointments this week in Mumbai and New Delhi, highlighting new developments in the City’s hotels, attractions, retailers and more.



“New York City is always evolving, with new attractions and developments that make the City a must-visit destination year-round,” said Chris Heywood, NYC & Company’s Senior Vice President of Global Communications. “The festive winter season is one of the best times to experience the City’s most popular and exciting attractions, and we encourage travelers to plan their trip as soon as possible.”



Highlights of the ‘new’ New York City include the One World Observatory, the new Whitney Museum of American Art in the Meatpacking District and Lower Manhattan’s newest shopping destination Brookfield Place; hotel openings such as the new eco-luxury 1 Hotel Central Park, The New York EDITION and Baccarat Hotel; in addition to ground breaking infrastructure improvements such as the brand new 7 Line Station at 34th St - Hudson Yards, which will open September 13 on Manhattan’s Far West Side.



In Mumbai today NYC & Company also announced Corona, Queens as the latest neighborhood featured in its NYCGO Insider Guides. As part of the promotion, Corona is featured in a short documentary film highlighting locals’ recommendations on the must-visit places in this bustling neighborhood, including the Louis Armstrong House Museum, the Lemon Ice King of Corona and Flushing Meadows Corona Park. New York City welcomed 263,000 visitors from India in 2014, a number that is expected to increase by 5.7 percent to 278,000 this year. In recent years, Indian visitation to NYC has grown by 42 percent, up from 185,000 in 2010. 



The media mission coincides with a travel trade mission across India this week, where NYC & Company’s Global Tourism Development team and travel industry partners The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Empire State Building will meet with key travel agents and tour operators in Chennai, Mumbai and New Delhi.



This media mission in India is part of a larger ‘new’ New York City tour that kicked off with a press conference at ITB Berlin in March, and has included press briefings in Rome, Milan, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin, London, Shanghai, Toronto, and at IPW in Orlando. Domestically, NYC & Company has promoted these new developments at media appointments in Washington, DC, Boston and Hartford.
