NYC & COMPANY ENCOURAGES NEW YORKERS TO SHOW THEIR BOROUGH PRIDE AS THE CITY'S TOP PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS COMPETE TO EARN THE TITLE “BEST IN THE CITY”

—Senior All-Stars from Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island Will Compete Against All-Stars from the Bronx and Queens on March 30 at CCNY’s Nat Holman Gym


New York City (March 29, 2012)—NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today encourages all New Yorkers to cheer on the student athletes from their borough in the second annual NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games. On March 30, the top male and female senior basketball players from the Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) will compete for the title of “Best in the City.” Both the boys and girls will be divided by borough, as the all-stars from Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island will play against the all-stars from the Bronx and Queens. Admission to the event is free and will take place at CCNY’s Nat Holman Gymnasium, located at 160 Convent Avenue at 136th Street in Manhattan. The girls’ game begins at 5pm, followed by the boys at 7pm.


“New York City’s schools educate some of the most talented and gifted student-athletes in the country,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “The NYC Mayor’s Cup series showcases these individuals and gives them an opportunity to compete at the highest level while proudly representing their neighborhoods. The NYC Mayor’s Cup Basketball All-Star Games are a great opportunity for New York City sports fans to rally behind their borough, support their local All-Stars, and enjoy great sports competition.”

The NYC Mayor’s Cup is a series of 12 athletic events that span the year and take place in locations across the five boroughs allowing New York City student athletes to compete for the title of “Best in the City.”
