NYC & COMPANY INVITES VISITORS TO CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY IN NEW YORK CITY

—All Five Boroughs Offer Unique Events and Activities Throughout Father’s Day Weekend—

New York City (June 8, 2015) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, encourages locals and visitors to celebrate with their fathers in New York City this Father’s Day, Sunday, June 21. Whether Dad likes to get out and see the “new” New York City or enjoy traditional Father’s Day activities, there are a variety of indoor and outdoor options throughout the five boroughs that the whole family will love.

“Father’s Day is a time for families to celebrate together, and there’s no place that has more options to satisfy every member of the family than New York City,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company. “Whether you are looking for a day full of activities or a quiet day to relax, all five boroughs offer unique ways to celebrate Dad.”

For the cutting-edge dad, families can check out some of the new museums, exhibitions and attractions that have just opened in New York City. Visitors can get a bird’s-eye view of the City at One World Observatory, visit the Whitney Museum of American Art’s new building in the Meatpacking District, designed by Renzo Piano, and learn about family heritage at the new Peopling of America Center at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration, all of which opened last month.

At some of the City’s other iconic museums, families can experience new exhibitions including the Brooklyn Museum’s Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks; the New York Botanical Gardens’ Frida Kahlo exhibit entitled Art, Garden, Life; and Life at the Limits: Stories of Amazing Species at the American Museum of Natural History. Similarly, families with younger art buffs can enjoy interactive activities together, including special Father’s Day arts and crafts workshops at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. Roller-skating at Pier 2 at Brooklyn Bridge Park or a visit to the New York Hall of Science in Queens are also guaranteed to please kids of all ages.

This Father’s Day weekend, families can enjoy a variety of sporting events, including the New York Yankees taking on the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium June 19, 20 and 21; or the New York Liberty’s battle with the Indiana Fever at Madison Square Garden on June 19. And outdoors, dads might enjoy golfing at one of New York City’s incredible golf courses, such as the new Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point, the City’s first tournament-quality golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus; Van Cortlandt Golf Course in the Bronx; or Forest Park Golf Course in Queens.

To enjoy the City’s beautiful summer weather together, families can take a free walking tour in Central Park on Father’s Day, led by Central Park Conservancy tour guides, and explore some of the best-known features of the iconic landmark, or stop by Madison Square Park where the Madison Square Park Conservancy has displayed artist Teresita Fernández’s Fata Morgana, the 500-foot-long outdoor sculpture that is installed horizontally above the park’s pathways. And for a different tour of the City, families can take Dad on a Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise. Celebrating their 70th anniversary this year, Circle Line has a cruise for everyone, from their Landmark Cruise to their Best of NYC Cruise, and Dad is sure to get a view of the City he won’t soon forget.

Families looking to shop this Father’s Day weekend have a variety of options, including Lower Manhattan’s newest retail destination, Brookfield Place, with stores including OMEGA, Salvatore Ferragamo, Paul Smith and Saks Fifth Avenue. At The Shops at Columbus Circle, Dad can visit the Tesla Design Studio, a pop-up showroom which allows visitors to learn about Tesla Motors’ electric cars and design their own. Similarly, tech-savvy fathers can head to the brand new Apple Store, Upper East Side opening June 13 on Madison Avenue at 74th Street. And, at the world’s largest department store, Macy’s Herald Square, families can shop until they drop within the store’s ten floors, and pay a visit to NYC & Company’s Official NYC Information Center, where visitors can enjoy a Macy’s 10%-off Visitors Shopping Pass. At the Information Center, City specialists can help visitors to plan their trip, offer directions and advice, and purchase attraction tickets.

Father’s Day celebrations do not have to be costly, with a variety of free and affordable activities the whole family can enjoy. Throughout the weekend, families can take their pick of several free outdoor festivals, including Make Music New York, where families can enjoy a live, free musical celebration featuring over 1,200 concerts on streets, sidewalks and parks across the five boroughs. Dads who love to sing are invited to join the Sea Shantey Sessions, a free sing-a-long in Staten Island presented by Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. And, at Madame Tussauds New York, dads can get in at the kid’s ticket price by mentioning “WAX DAD” upon entry.
