NYC & COMPANY NAMES THE
CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF MANHATTAN ITS
CULTURE SPOT FOR DECEMBER 2012

—The Learning Center Offers $1 Off Admission for Adults and Seniors and 10% Off in the Museum’s Store All Month Long—

New York City (December 3, 2012) — NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today named the Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) its Culture Spot pick for December. The Museum will offer adults and seniors $1 off general admission and a 10% discount in their museum store all month long. Designating the Children’s Museum of Manhattan as one of NYC & Company’s Culture Spots offers New Yorkers and visitors an opportunity to explore the unique learning center at a discounted price. A monthly program that spotlights cultural organizations across the five boroughs, Culture Spot elevates the City’s art community and encourages local and visitor exploration.

“The family-friendly Children’s Museum of Manhattan provides New Yorkers and visitors an opportunity to have fun while learning about world cultures, art, science, technology and more,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “We encourage families to take advantage of December’s Culture Spot offer and experience CMOM’s unique interactive exhibitions and programs that both children and adults will enjoy.”

Located on the Upper West Side, CMOM has encouraged and inspired children and adults to learn and play for almost 40 years.

“Along with the tree in Rockefeller Plaza, the store windows on Fifth Avenue and a trip to see Santa at Macy’s, CMOM is a great holiday destination for families,” said Andrew Ackerman, Executive Director of CMOM.  “Whether you come to meet the Grinch or to experience our Hanukkah or Kwanzaa celebrations, you will experience the breadth of diversity that makes New York City such a vibrant and unique place.”

Throughout December, CMOM celebrates the holiday season with The Grinch’s Holiday Workshop exhibition, which runs through January 6. The exhibit includes an interactive sleigh ride to Who-ville, special readings of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, hands-on art projects, and opportunities to meet the Grinch.

Reflecting the book’s message of the importance of community, CMOM is co-sponsoring a book drive with Madison Square Garden Entertainment.  Patrons who attend The Grinch’s Holiday Workshop are encouraged to bring an unused book to be donated to Garden of Dreams Foundation. Bins are located at admissions.

CMOM’s permanent exhibitions include EatSleepPlay™: Building Health Every Day, an interactive opportunity for families to create healthier lifestyles together; Adventures with Dora and Diego, which encourages a greater appreciation and awareness of Latin American culture; and PlayWorks™, an exhibition designed to help families prepare children to enter school, ready to learn and grow.

To learn more about December’s Culture Spot pick, Annie Bergen will host a podcast with the Children’s Museum of Manhattan’s executive director, Andy Ackerman. To listen to the podcast and learn more about the Culture Spot program, visit nycgo.com/culturespot.
