NYC & COMPANY PRESENTS THE 'NEW' NEW YORK CITY TO INFLUENTIAL EUROPEAN AUDIENCES

— Significant New Openings and Developments Promoted at Press Briefings in Amsterdam, Dublin and London—

Amsterdam, the Netherlands (June 19, 2015) — NYC & Company, New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today launched a new phase of its global tour, highlighting significant openings and developments in the ‘new’ New York City to influential travel audiences in three cities across Western Europe. Starting today at a press briefing in Amsterdam at the Conservatorium Hotel, and next week in Dublin and London, NYC & Company president and CEO Fred Dixon and Senior Vice President of Global Communications Chris Heywood will outline brand-new attractions such as the One World Observatory (opened May 29), the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration (May 20), the Whitney Museum of American Art (May 1) and the Trump Golf Links Ferry Point (April 1), in addition to the City’s booming hotel industry, infrastructure improvements, dining scene and more.

“New York City is experiencing a groundbreaking moment in its history, with unrivaled new tourism products that are truly transforming the destination. During this monumental time, we are pleased to present the ‘new’ New York City to influential audiences around the world and, specifically, to European travel media this week,” said Fred Dixon. “Summer is not only the ideal time to visit these brand-new attractions and hotels but also to take advantage of the City’s many free and affordable activities, ranging from outdoor concerts and festivals to museums and tours, and we encourage travelers to book their visit today.”

Budget-conscious travelers have plenty to look forward to in New York City’s five boroughs, with a plethora of free and low-cost experiences. From free attractions to outdoor activities, NYC has a lot to offer visitors seeking affordability and value. This spring, NYC & Company launched a “Free in NYC” guide, nycgo.com/free, which highlights the top free activities the City has to offer.

Hotel development in New York City remains strong, with a record 102,000 hotel rooms last year and more than 11,000 additional rooms expected by the end of 2015, bringing the total to 13,000+ rooms. With inventory expanding to more than 124,000 hotel rooms in the next three years, New York City is more diverse and accessible than ever. New properties range from select-service to luxury and are part of both global portfolios and smaller boutique brands, offering visitors a variety of options when booking travel to New York City.

These events in Europe come on the heels of NYC & Company’s successful press conferences for a combined 350+ media at IPW 2015, the travel industry’s premier international marketplace, in Orlando on June 2, and at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show, in March. In April, Dixon and Heywood hosted press conferences in Rome, Milan and Paris and will host a similar event in Shanghai next month. Domestically, the organization has promoted the ‘new’ New York City at media appointments in Washington, DC, and Boston, and later this month plans to visit important feeder markets in Connecticut.

New York City is on track to welcome 58.1 million visitors this year, with more than 1.6 million total visitors coming from the United Kingdom (1,172,000 visitors), Ireland (220,000) and the Netherlands (218,000). Reflecting a steady growth of international visitation year over year (to 12.6 million international visitors in 2015), all three markets continue to show consistent increases in visitation to New York City.

This media mission coincides with a NYC & Company travel trade mission across the UK and Ireland from June 22–26, where members of NYC & Company’s Global Tourism Development team will meet with key travel agents and tour operators in Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow and London. They are joined by representatives of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, The Broadway Collection, CityPASS, The Empire State Building Experience, InterContinental New York Times Square/InterContinental New York Barclay, The London NYC and Marriott Hotels of New York City.
