—Food Luminaries to Lead Free Panel on Evolution of Dining in New York City on July 17—

New York City (July 16, 2012)—NYC & Company, New York City’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, announces NYC Restaurant Week Summer 2012 starts today, July 16. The dining event will continue to honor the 20th anniversary of the program with 20 days of dining deals from July 16 to August 10, Mondays through Fridays, with Saturdays excluded and Sundays optional. In addition, NYC & Company and The New York Public Library will host a panel on the evolution of dining in the City to celebrate NYC Restaurant Week’s 20-year milestone and the library’s new free exhibition Lunch Hour NYC. Diners can make reservations at more than 300 participating restaurants at nycgo.com/restaurantweek or through NYC Map, a free smartphone app available for download at nycgo.com/citymaps.

“New York City is the dining capital of the world, with nearly 25,000 restaurants ranging from five-star establishments to independently owned pizza parlors and delis,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “This season, to round out the 20th anniversary of NYC Restaurant Week, we’re proud to present a panel of restaurant industry personalities to discuss the art of dining out. The free public event is just one more way New Yorkers and visitors can celebrate the vibrancy of New York City’s culture.”

The NYC Restaurant Week Dining Panel will be on Tuesday, July 17, at The New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, in Midtown. Guests can enjoy the free exhibition Lunch Hour NYC before the panel. Follow NYC & Company on Twitter (@nycgo) for the opportunity to win a ticket for the event.

William Grimes, former New York Times restaurant critic and author of Appetite City: A Culinary History of New York, will serve as moderator for the discussion. Panelists include David Burke, award-winning celebrity chef and restaurateur; Tim Zagat, co-founder and co-chair of Zagat Survey and co-founder of NYC Restaurant Week; Rebecca Federman, culinary collections librarian at The New York Public Library and co-curator of Lunch Hour NYC; and Andrew P.
