NYC MAYOR’S CUP CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS TAKING PLACE SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 AT VAN CORTLANDT PARK
—Top Runners from New York City’s High Schools to Compete for the Title of “Best in the City”—
New York City (September 30, 2014) — New York City’s top high school cross country runners from the Public Schools Athletic League, Catholic High School Athletic Association and independent schools will compete for the title of “Best in the City” at the 11th annual NYC Mayor’s Cup Cross Country Championships.
The boys championship race will be headlined by three of the state’s top-ranked runners, Marco Pompilj (Collegiate), Conor Lundy (Fordham Prep) and John Rice (Xavier). Defending girls champions Curtis High School (Staten Island) will look to defeat St. John Villa (Staten Island), who previously earned the title “Best in the City” from 2010–2012. The 2014 NYC Mayor’s Cup Cross Country Championships is the first event of the 2014–15 season for NYC Mayor’s Cup, which encompasses sporting events throughout the year and is produced by NYC & Company. The series showcases student athletes of all ages from the five boroughs as they compete to prove they are New York City’s best at baseball, basketball, chess, cricket, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, track & field and wrestling.
