New York, NY (December 17, 2007) NYC & Company, the official marketing and tourism organization for the City of New York, announced today that the American Bar Association (ABA) has chosen New York City as the site for its annual meeting in August 2017. The meeting is expected to draw some 12,000 attendees over a seven-day period and will generate 54,000 total room nights while pumping $34 million into the Citys economy. The announcement comes as New York City is preparing to welcome the ABA next August for its 2008 annual meeting.

Were pleased that the American Bar Association has chosen to bring their 2017 annual meeting to New York City, said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. At the same time, were delighted that the ABA will also convene here for their 2008 annual meeting.

The Hilton New York in Midtown will be the Meetings headquarters, with room blocks and events at several nearby hotels including the Marriott Marquis, Sheraton New York, Le Parker Meridien, Westin New York Times Square, Waldorf=Astoria, the Grand Hyatt, Jumeirah Essex House, The London and InterContinental Barclay. A Presidents Reception is also planned at the Museum of Modern Art to celebrate the meetings commencement.

New York City is an ideal meetings and convention destination for the American Bar Association, said Martin Balogh, Director of Meetings and Travel with the American Bar Association. Were pleased to be in New York City in 2008 and now 2017 as well. We expect our attendance to break records during both of these years.

With more than 413,000 members, the American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional membership organization in the world. As the national voice of the legal profession, the ABA works to improve the administration of justice, promotes programs that assist lawyers and judges in their work, accredits law schools, provides continuing legal education, and builds international understanding around the importance of the rule of law.
