City Offers Multitude of Cultural and Entertainment Options During Broadway Strike
Eight Broadway Shows Continue to Offer Performances; Tourists Can Obtain Refunds for Shows Affected by Strike
New York, NY (November 20, 2007) NYC & Company, the marketing and tourism organization for the City of New York, is informing tourists that eight Broadway shows are running as scheduled during the stagehands’ strike. As for the 27 affected theaters, the League of American Theatres announced November 18 that as the strike continues, refunds will be made available.
“New York City has diverse cultural options throughout the five boroughs, and we are doing everything we can to help visitors who need to change their plans on account of the strike,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “Visitors can go to nycgo.com for periodic updates about theater, along with information on music and dance performances, museum exhibitions and other attractions here in the City.”
For those looking for alternative theater options, the Theatre Development Fund’s TKTS booths in Times Square and at the South Street Seaport are still open and operating. Both are selling discount tickets for the Broadway shows that are unaffected by the strike as well as for off-Broadway and dance productions. In addition, a special weeklong dining program, Dining in the District, has been launched at more than 25 participating restaurants in the Theatre District area. The program offers a 15% discount on lunch or dinner to patrons. A listing of participating restaurants can be found on nycgo.com.
Detailed information about canceled shows and refunds/exchanges can be found at ilovenytheater.com. In many cases, if tickets were purchased via credit card, the cost will automatically be refunded.
Other sources of information include the trip advisors at the City’s Official Visitor Information Center, located at 810 Seventh Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Streets. The City also operates visitor kiosks centers in Harlem (253 West 125th Street), the Financial District (26 Wall Street), City Hall Park (Broadway sidewalk at Park Row) and Chinatown (at the intersection of Canal, Walker and Baxter Streets).
Regular updates on events across the five boroughs are also being provided online at the City’s official website, nyc.gov, on NYC & Company’s website, nycgo.com, and through 311, which can be accessed outside the five boroughs by calling 212-NEW-YORK.
