New York City to Welcome Brooklyn Book Festival

NEW YORK CITY TO WELCOME BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL


September 14 Event Showcases Work of 154 International and Domestic Authors


New York City � (September 8, 2008) NYC & Company today announced that The Brooklyn Book Festival will be returning to New York City on Sunday, Sept. 14. The free one-day event will showcase a litany of literary stars and emerging authors who reflect the best of literature today. More than 20,000 book lovers of all ages are expected to gather for the festival, which includes 154 authors including luminaries like Joan Didion, Richard Price, Jonathan Lethem, A.M. Homes, Chuck Klosterman, Susan Choi, Jimmy Breslin and Pete Hamill, as well as renowned young adult and children�s lit authors like Cecily von Ziegesar, Jacqueline Woodson, Jon Scieszka and Mo Willems. The Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Brooklyn Borough Hall and Plaza.



�We are excited to promote one of our City�s best literary events while encouraging visitors and residents to visit Brooklyn for this diverse and exciting festival,� said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company, the city�s marketing, tourism and partnership organization.



Top national and international authors and partners are expanding this year�s festival reach while continuing to celebrate Brooklyn�s contemporary and historic literary reputation. With four stages and more than 150 booths, the festival will also include themed readings and lively panel discussions. Last year, the event drew more than 20,000 people.



�The Brooklyn Book Festival began as a way to showcase Brooklyn�s great writers and its rich literary history,� said Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President. �But it has evolved into a celebration of the written word in all its forms, from writers of every stripe, and the four corners of the world. It�s now one of the City�s premier literary and literacy events, and we are delighted to give residents and visitors a unique opportunity to take advantage of the wealth of literary talent that will be showcased during this event.�



To visit the Brooklyn Book Festival via subway, take the 2, 3, 4, 5 to Borough Hall; R to Court Street; A, C, F to Jay Street/Borough Hall. Borough Hall is located at 209 Joralemon Street, on the north side of Joralemon Street, between Court and Adams streets.
