New York, NY (February 1, 2007) New York Citys ultimate theater for kids and families -- The New Victory Theater, a project of The New 42nd Street -- has been named NYC & Companys Cultural Organization of the Month. In celebration of this designation, visitors to this historic Times Square theater will receive a 10% discount to selected performances of the show Lookingglass Alice when they mention Cultural Organization of the Month throughout February. NYC & Company is the citys official tourism marketing organization. The show, a combination of physical theater and circus arts, is based on Lewis Carroll's spectacularly surreal classic, and is brought to life in this wildly imaginative production from Chicagos Lookingglass Theatre Company.Everyone at The New Victory Theater and the New 42nd Street joins me in expressing our delight in being NYC & Companys Cultural Organization of the Month for February, said Cora Cahan, president of The New 42nd Street. The New Victory opened at the end of 1995 as the harbinger of the remarkable transformation of 42nd Street. From the time of its opening, it bravely stood alone on the block with 37 adult businesses still extant at the end of the street until it was joined, 18 months later, by the restored New Amsterdam and Hilton theaters. The New Vic is the city's first and only theater dedicated full time to kids, their parents, grandparents, schoolmates, and teachers. The New Victory's affordable tickets, burgeoning arts education, and job corps programs for young people, coupled with the theater's high quality productions of provocative, compelling, magical, and beautiful works from across the nation and around the world, have made it an esteemed and important component of cultural life in New York City. Come to the New Vic this month to see the marvelous, highly original, and inventive Lookingglass Alice, a vivid, truly marvelous work which uses the entire theater to tell Lewis Carroll's classic tale, added Cahan. The Cultural Organization of the Month discount applies to the following performances of Lookingglass Alice:
