Waterfront in Brooklyn and Manhattan

New York City (June 30, 2010) On the heels of the Citys global Get More NYC campaign launch, NYC & Company, the citys official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, announces a pilot ferry service to help people experience some of the Citys best waterfronts in a new way. Residents and visitors will be able to see more and be more by riding the discounted NYHarborWay Ferry, which takes visitors between waterfront destinations, including Brooklyn Bridge Park, Governors Island and South Street Seaport. The service is the newest and fastest connection between Brooklyn and Manhattan.

This summer, the NYHarborWay Ferry offers visitors and New Yorkers easy access to some of the Citys best waterfront locations, along with outstanding savings on Fridays, said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. Were happy about this major NYHarborWay initiative, which is designed to enhance programming around the harbor, encourage people to visit the waterfront and increase access to waterfront sites around the City.

On Friday the NYHarborWay Ferry service starts at $2 for one-way tickets, $3 for round-trip tickets and $6 for one-way tickets for a family of four (good for up to two adults and two children under the age of 3; children under 3 ride for free). Friday service runs from 10am to 4 pm. The NYHarborWay Ferry offers the only direct ferry from Brooklyn to Governors Island on Fridays (govisland.com).

Start your Summer Friday at the Fulton Ferry Landing with pastries from Almondine Bakery (almondinebakery.com) while taking in the Manhattan skyline. Next visit the recently opened Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park to experience one of the largest and newest playgrounds in the City (brooklynbridgepark.org). Make your way to Governors Island and enjoy Free Bike Fridays courtesy of Bike and Roll; free bikes are available for up to one hour between 10am and 3:30pm. End your day at South Street Seaport, which, along with a multitude of shopping and dining options, is home to the Water Taxi Beach and Beer Garden, with spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River.
