—City Businesses Prepare to Welcome Visitors and Couples with Special Offers and Promotions—
New York, NY (September 4, 2007)—On last week's NYC Visit segment, WNBC's Perri Peltz and Tiffany Townsend of NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing and tourism organization, highlighted Farm Aid 2007: A HOMEGROWN Festival on this week's NYC Visit segment, which also featured promotions and activities taking place in the City in the days surrounding the event.
"Farm Aid has supported sustainable living and family farming for more than 25 years, and we are honored and excited that New York City will—for the first time—host this year's Farm Aid festival," said Townsend. "Through Mayor Bloomberg's efforts, New York City is now also a leader in environmentally friendly initiatives and sustainable living."
In addition, the segment also featured Farm Aid's "Fresh from the Family Farm" promotion as well as the Farm Aid Homegrown Fair in at Union Square.
"New York City is a much greener city than people may realize and the farmers markets are always a great draw," said WNBC anchor Perri Peltz. "The events and promotions taking place surrounding Farm Aid give people a simple and enjoyable way to participate in important environmental issues."
Farm Aid 2007: A HOMEGROWN Festival will take place on Randalls Island on Sunday, September 9. This year's event will feature two music stages, family farm food vendors and interactive exhibits. Joining festival co-founders Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp are Dave Matthews, The Allman Brothers, Counting Crows and many more.
From September 4 through September 10, Farm Aid will partner with several New York City restaurants for the "Fresh from the Family Farm" promotion. Local favorites, including Tavern on the Green, Centrico and Gramercy Tavern, will feature at least one menu item that uses locally-grown foods produced by family farms, some of which is also certified organic. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Farm Aid.
Prior to the Sunday concert, Farm Aid will hold the Farm Aid Homegrown Fair in Union Square on Saturday, September 8. Visitors can enjoy free music and delicious farm food starting at 10am at the South Plaza in Union Square.
