NYC & COMPANY AND PERRI PELTZ SHOWCASE FREE THINGS TO DO IN NEW YORK CITY

The City's Marketing and Tourism Organization Highlights Several No-Cost Activities for Visitors

New York, NY (July 10, 2007)New York City offers a variety of free events citywide throughout the summer, and on Friday July 6, NYC & Company's Tiffany Townsend joined WNBC's Perri Peltz with several suggestions on how to spend a day or evening in New York City without spending money. As part of the NYC Visit segment on News 4 You, Townsend featured four venues and activities throughout the city that are free to everyone."New York City has a reputation as a trendy and glamorous place," said Townsend. "The idea of coming to visit can be exciting but also a little daunting for those who are concerned about spending too muchparticularly right after a holiday. But the truth is there are tons of things to see and do here, and many will not cost you muchif anything at all."Shakespeare in the Park, Socrates Sculpture Park, Passport Fridays at Corona Park and SummerStage were featured on the Friday segment. These four are examples of the varied selection of activitiesfrom live musical concerts to ethnic dances to outdoor cinemathat can be found all across the five boroughs. Visitors can find more information on deals and promotions around the city at nycvisit.com."We chose these four because they really highlight the wide array of options available herefrom the events themselves to the location," said Townsend. "There is something available for every taste and style. You can treat your children to a great concert or take in Shakespeare with your significant other or just watch a great film with friends."Shakespeare in the Park and SummerStage, both located in Central Park, will run until September 9 and September 16, respectively. The Passport Fridays program at Corona Park opened on July 6 and runs through August 24. Socrates Sculpture Park is open year round from 10am to sunset, and currently has an outdoor cinema program until August 29.For more information on this week's segment and News 4 You, including directions, specials and contact information, please visit nycvisit.com/news4you.
