BACK TO SCHOOL FOR KIDS MEANS FUN FOR PARENTS: NYC & COMPANY AND WNBC'S NEWS 4 YOU FIND KID-FREE ZONES IN THE CITY

—NYC Visit Provides Parents with Quick and Easy Escapes As Fall Gets into Full Swing—

New York, NY (August 20, 2007)—WNBC's Perri Peltz and Fred Dixon of NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing and tourism organization, recommended a few "back-to-school" activities for parents to enjoy during the August 17 NYC Visit segment on WNBC's News 4 You. The segment featured three activities parents can share with friends, spouses or just enjoy for themselves while their children are at school or away at college.

"Schools will soon be back in session, and while kids get ready for homework, parents may find themselves with some additional free time," said Dixon. "There are a variety of weekend and night activities in the City that parents can enjoy: watch a wonderful performance, learn to cook a great meal or tickle your funny bone. New York City is the perfect place for parents to feel young again."

Featured locations include the Metropolitan Opera, the comedy club Carolines on Broadway and the New School Culinary Arts Program.

"Entertaining your children all summer long is both exciting and exhausting," said host Perri Peltz. "New York City offers a variety of activities for parents looking to enjoy a little 'me-time'."

The Metropolitan Opera, located in Lincoln Center, is regarded as one of the world's premier opera houses. Tickets for the 2007 season are now on sale and this season's line-up includes classic works such as Aida, Carmen and La Bohème and new works like Macbeth and Lucia di Lammermoor.

For 25 years, Carolines on Broadway has established itself as a legendary New York City comedy club—comedians such as Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld have performed in the 300-seat showroom.

In addition, the New School for Culinary Arts offers one-day Sunday cooking classes for all skill levels. The five-hour course provides a variety of kitchen lessons from understanding recipes to making tasty dishes like banana-bread muffins.
