New York, NY (July 23, 2007)On Friday, July 20, NYC & Company's Tiffany Townsend and News 4 You anchor Perri Peltz highlighted some of the city's best golfing for New York City's local NBC station, WNBC. The weekly NYC Visit segment offered golfing venues and shopping options for all ages and skill levels."With more than eight million people and sight lines full of skyscrapers, New York City may not seem like a great place for golf, but the city is actually home to a wide variety of golf-related activities," said Townsend. "Across all five boroughs, avid golfers as well as beginners can find a course, driving range or pro shop to fill their golfing needs."NYC Visit's featured destinations included the Pelham Bay/Split Rock Golf Course, the private golf studio Drive 495, mega-store The World of Golf and the multi-faceted Randalls Island Golf Center. These destinations are just some of the many golf facilities available to New Yorkers and visitors."Golf is a challenging sport, and it can be a little daunting to play if you are inexperienced or have not had practice," said Townsend. "New York City not only offers fantastic golf courseslike Pelhambut also has driving ranges and mini-golf if you want to get out with friends and family. Plus, companies like Drive 495 and The World of Golf are great for the latest gear or to fix that hitch in your swing with some revolutionary technology."Pelham Bay/Split Rock Golf Course, located in New York City's largest parkthe Bronx's Pelham Bay Parkis one of the nation's oldest public golf courses and is the only 36-hole facility in New York City.SoHo-based Drive 495 offers golfers a state-of-the-art gym and private golf studios complete with golf simulators and customized lessons. Even non-members can purchase the "Drive 495 Experience" package that includes swing and putting instruction, 3-D swing analysis, fitness analysis and nutrition consultation. The World of Golf has two Manhattan locations; both locales have an extensive collection of golf clubs that can be customized and tried out in the store. It also is home to New York's first Callaway Gold Performance Centeronly one of seven nationwide. The two-tiered driving range at Randalls Island Golf Center has 80 heated and covered tee stalls along with two 18-hole courses and a chipping green.
