NYC & COMPANY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF NEW NYHARBORWAY FERRY BROOKLYN/MANHATTAN EXPRESS, STARTING WEEKEND SERVICE FROM ?FRIDAY, JUNE 11, THROUGH LABOR DAY




New Ferry Service Will Increase Accessibility along the City's NYHarborWay District, Connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan Waterfronts and Governors Island This Summer



New York City (June 9, 2010) � NYC & Company, New York City�s tourism, marketing and partnership organization, and New York Water Taxi today announced a new weekend summer ferry service�NYHarborWay Ferry Brooklyn/Manhattan Express. The new service between Brooklyn Bridge Park and South Street Seaport in Manhattan will begin Friday, June 11, and run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day. Ferries will run every 30 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan, including inaugural service to Brooklyn Bridge Park's recently opened Pier 6. On Fridays, ferries will stop at Governors Island as well, providing the only access from Brooklyn on that day. The new service is part of an initiative to improve the physical links within NYHarborWay, a destination consisting of nine unique waterfront sites connected by bike and ferry.?



�New York City�s waterfronts are becoming a major recreational destination for locals and visitors alike, and we are pleased to announce NYC�s newest ferry service, the NYHarborWay Ferry Brooklyn/Manhattan Express,� said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. �This is the first major NYHarborWay initiative project this year, aimed at increasing connectivity between New York City�s waterfronts, and we encourage everybody to enjoy this new summer service.�



�I always say that when tourists come to Brooklyn to check out our world-famous culture, cuisine, character and characters, if they want to take a �day trip� to Manhattan, that�s okay!,� said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. �Now, with this new NYHarborWay Ferry Brooklyn-Manhattan Express, there�s one more easy and fun way to hop across the harbor�for everyone to spend some time on Governor�s Island and for those in Manhattan to come and enjoy the many pleasures of our absolutely stunning, ever-expanding Brooklyn Bridge Park, which boasts the best city views in NYC!�



The NYHarborWay Ferry Brooklyn/Manhattan Express will offer service between the recently opened Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Fulton Ferry Landing, and South Street Seaport in Manhattan, with departures every 30 minutes from each location. On Fridays, the ferry also stops on Governors Island, where visitors can take advantage of Free Bike Fridays.



Tickets for Friday ferry service will cost $2 for a single ride (one way), $3 for a round trip and $6 for a one-way family ride, good for up to two adults and two children ages 3 and older (children under 3 ride for free). Tickets for Saturday and Sunday service will cost $6 for a one-way ride, $10 for a round trip and $15 for a one-way family ride.



The new NYHarborWay Ferry, operated by New York Water Taxi, comes in addition to the also newly-introduced free ferry service connecting Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park and Governor�s Island on Saturdays and Sundays.?
