—Last Weekend in August Showcases NYC’s World of Sports—
New York City (August 26, 2009)—NYC & Company, New York City’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today challenged residents and visitors alike to get physical by highlighting some of the City’s top sporting activities in its Go Local roundup for the weekend of August 29. Designed to cater to a variety of budgets, NYC & Company's Go Local initiative identifies free and low-cost happenings across the five boroughs, encouraging locals to explore their city, discover what's in their own backyard and—this weekend—sample some new sports. This summer, more than 1,500 free activities and events are being offered all around the City.
“New York City includes an assortment of landscapes throughout the five boroughs,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “From the waterfronts to the parks, from the beaches to the skyscrapers, NYC provides various ways for residents and visitors alike to get moving. The numerous athletic attractions and sporting leagues in the City are a testament to how easily accessible exercise is, as well as the importance of health to New Yorkers.”
