New York City (October 10, 2011) – NYC & Company, the City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, invites all New Yorkers and visitors alike to experience the biggest and most exciting popular culture convention on the East Coast – the New York Comic Con. The New York Comic Con features the top names in comics, anime, graphic novels, gaming, toys, television and film that interact with the consumers through panels and autograph sessions as well as debut the latest works in their genre. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the New York Comic Con at the Javits Center from October 13 -16, and more than 3,600 room nights are booked delivering an estimated $50 million in economic impact to the City.

Over 700 exhibitors and 400 artists will participate in this year’s event, which will include an expanded autographing area as well as 3 full days of public access to the show.  The show floor will occupy the complete exhibit hall of Javits Center as the entire convention takes up 470,000 square feet of space.  Celebrity guests include Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob), Mark Hamill, director John Landis, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones/Conan), Rose McGowan, Seth Green, Stephen Lang (Terra Nova), and Chad Michael Murray, among others.

“New York City has such a worldwide cultural appeal and is tied so closely with the entertainment and arts, it is fitting we are again hosting an important show that appeals to both the consumers and industry in this genre,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “Visitors who come from around the world for the New York Comic Con will find that New York City offers many exciting opportunities as well.”

After a hugely successful debut last year, the Cultyard Pavilion will return again this year with over 40 exhibitors featuring art, design, collectible toys, pop-tech, and fashion.  And, in what NYCC is informally calling the “Star Wars Zip Code” in the exhibition hall, attendees will find new Star Wars products from licensees and dealers, as well as a special Celebration VI area.   Exhibitors spanning all these areas of the pop culture universe will participate in the show including: Activision, AMC, Archaia, Capcom, Comedy Central, Dark Horse, DC, Hasbro, HBO, IGN, Marvel, Mattel, and Xbox to name just a very few.

“This year’s show will be the biggest and best we have ever produced,” notes Lance Fensterman, Group Vice President for ReedPOP which organizes New York Comic Con. “Cranes Business has already dubbed New York Comic Con the second largest event in New York City and we are excited to build on that further and bring the full weight of the creative class to New York City with all of the cultural and economic impact along with it.
