NYC & COMPANY REMINDS NEW YORKERS TO �GO LOCAL� THIS WEEKEND WITH SUGGESTED WAYS TO VACATION IN THE CITY




�Weekend of August 1 Events Showcase �Relaxation with Rhythm��



New York City (July 29, 2009)�NYC & Company, New York City�s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced its lineup of Go Local summer activities for the weekend of July 30 to August 2. As the condition of the economy continues to affect millions of New Yorkers, the City remains an exceptional value that can be enjoyed on any budget. The Go Local initiative highlights free and low-cost events for residents to enjoy throughout the five boroughs, encouraging them to take advantage of New York City�s wide range of activities while discovering its neighborhoods.



�New York City offers its residents access to countless entertainment opportunities at a cost that won�t break the bank,� said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. �Our Go Local campaign is designed to showcase some of the City�s most enjoyable activities while highlighting unprecedented value."



This summer more than 1,500 free activities and events are being offered throughout the five boroughs. With school out and �Summer Fridays� in, this week�s Go Local looks at ways to relax with rhythm in the City through music and dance.



This week�s Go Local highlights:



Classes at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre
New York City�s premier modern dance company and �cultural ambassador to the world� offers beginning and intermediate dance and fitness classes to the public through its Ailey Extension program. Billed as "real classes for real people," the program includes classes in ballet, hip-hop, capoiera, �Zumba Latin Fitness� and more starting at $16.50. (alvinailey.org)



SonicVision at the American Museum of Natural History
To show off its next-generation digital technology, the iconic institution�s Hayden Planetarium has paired with MTV2 to create SonicVision, a 38-minute animated music show. DJ/singer-songwriter Moby put together the soundtrack featuring an all-star lineup, including Radiohead, U2 and David Bowie. The show is presented Friday and Saturday evenings; tickets are $15. Harlem Meer Performance Festival in Central Park
The popular Sunday-afternoon concert series celebrates the City's rich cultural heritage and ethnic diversity with Latin, jazz, world music and gospel performances by established and emerging local artists. This weekend, enjoy melodies from the Harlem Blues and Jazz Band. The concert starts at 2pm; it's preceded by a swing-dancing lesson at 1pm. (centralparknyc.org)
