New York City (January 6, 2011) — NYC & Company, the City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, welcomes the National Retail Federation (NRF) Convention and EXPO to New York City from January 9 to January 12, 2011. The four-day event, which allows attendees to connect with retail executives searching for the most effective solutions, tools and technologies, will mark its 100th anniversary in the City. The trade show hosts more than 18,500 visitors from 68 countries, generating more than 14,500 room-nights booked in hotels. This translates to roughly $27.4 million in economic impact for New York City. The National Retail Federation Convention and EXPO will be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

“No other trade show or convention in New York City has had the longevity as the National Retail Federation’s annual event,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “And as the NRF has made a long-term commitment to New York City, the City has made a commitment to the retail and fashion industry. This sector is a crucial part of the City’s business and a key reason millions of visitors shop in our stores, stay in our hotels and eat at our restaurants. Retail is vital to New York’s economy.”

The National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention and EXPO serves as the world’s leading retail event, bringing retail executives and vendors together for educational and networking opportunities. NRF’s EXPO floor, open on Monday and Tuesday of the convention, hosts more than 600 exhibiting companies and features one-of-a-kind pavilions displaying the latest in retail technology. During the event, retail CEOs and senior executives from around the world come together to discuss the industry’s most pertinent issues. Companies represented during select events, discussions and panels will include Brooks Brothers, Disney Store, HSN, Macy’s and Gilt Groupe, among others.

“There’s no place more fitting to celebrate NRF’s 100th Annual Convention than New York City,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. “We are looking forward to meeting retailers from across the world this week, to share lessons from a challenging period in our recent history as well as to discuss what lies ahead for our exciting and all-encompassing industry.”

Super Sessions offered during the event will feature many CEOs speaking on a variety of retail topics. Other sessions will offer educational content broken out into special programming tracks, giving attendees a map of specific content they find most important. New this year, NRF will highlight original research, with speakers and executives presenting the latest findings on topics including sustainability, global outlooks and industry initiatives for the upcoming year.
