STATEMENT FROM NYC & COMPANY CEO GEORGE FERTITTA
ON THE CITY COUNCIL’S PASSAGE OF NEW PEDICAB REFORMS

Pedicabs can be a great part of the visitor experience in New York City, but as with every industry safety and consumer protection must be a top priority.  The Council’s reforms will help modernize and regulate the pedicab industry—taking the guess-work out of calculating fares by giving customers a clear, more user-friendly system. The bill also levels the playing field by banning unscrupulous practices that shortchange both visitors and honest pedicab drivers alike. Protecting visitors and promoting the City in a responsible manner will be essential as we push forward to our goal of $70 billion in economic impact by 2015.  To this end, we applaud the City Council, Committee Chairman Garodnick and Mayor Bloomberg for their leadership in supporting these important reforms.
